Basketball Recap: South Platte Piles Up the Points Against Sutherland

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for South Platte on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Sutherland Sailors out of the water with a 63-30 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Blue Knights had established a 27 point advantage.

Quinten Koenen was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 30 points and nine boards. His big performance that evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Jacobs, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

South Platte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Sutherland lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ethan Holm, who posted six points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Jackson Saner, who scored 11 points.

South Platte has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points over those games. Sutherland dropped their record down to 2-17 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, South Platte will challenge Garden County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Garden County will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something South Platte surely won't give up without a fight. Sutherland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
