Cardinal Newman faced Woodmont in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cardinals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Wildcats. Winning may never get old, but the Cardinals sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row dating back to last season.

Leila Hargrove paced Cardinal Newman's offense, picking up 11 kills. Hargrove got some help from Lauren Rivers and her 26 assists. Rivers also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Addisyn Fernandez, racking up two apiece.

Cardinal Newman's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Woodmont, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Cardinal Newman didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against River Bluff on the 16th. As for Woodmont, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Nation Ford on the 16th.
