Volleyball Recap: Lilly Carrillo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Alleghany over Wilkes Central

Alleghany was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wilkes Central Eagles. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2020.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lilly Carrillo, who had 23 digs, five aces, and one block. Carrillo has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Proffit, who had 20 digs, 12 kills, and two aces.

Alleghany's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Wilkes Central, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Alleghany didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against North Wilkes on the 11th. As for Wilkes Central, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Starmount on the 11th.
