Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Hickory Ridge

Hickory Ridge came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Cox Mill Chargers an 18-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Ragin' Bulls, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Embler Kristyn and Avery Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kristyn pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jones pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kristyn has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. At bat, Kristyn went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Jones scored a run while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Jones a new career-high.

In other batting news, Katelyn Kiser was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Morgan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Hickory Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cox Mill only managed one hit.

Hickory Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Cox Mill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hickory Ridge will head out to take on Corinth Holders at 1:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Ragin' Bulls 2.3, the Pirates 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Cox Mill, they are taking a road trip to square off against Lake Norman at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
