Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Nuview Bridge's Fifth in Last Six Outings

It's playoff time, and Nuview Bridge had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Ojai Valley Spuds a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Knights have won 11 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Johnny Aguiluz's shutout, as he gave up just seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Nuview Bridge is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Christian Flores and Carson Lagor did most of the damage at the plate: Flores got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Lagor went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Flores has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nelson Lara, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Nuview Bridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 15 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Nuview Bridge has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ojai Valley, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5.

Looking ahead, Nuview Bridge will challenge Santa Rosa Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. Ojai Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
