Basketball Game Preview: Hillsboro Trojans vs. Council Grove Braves

The Hillsboro Trojans will challenge the Council Grove Braves at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Hillsboro beat Smoky Valley 52-42. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Vikings are ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Council Grove played in conference for the first time on Thursday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cair Paravel, sneaking past 30-28. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Braves.

Hillsboro has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.6 points over those games. As for Council Grove, their win bumped their record up to 5-12.

Everything came up roses for Hillsboro against Council Grove in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 51-7 victory. Will Hillsboro repeat their success, or does Council Grove have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
