Softball Recap: Half Moon Bay Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mountain View, Half Moon Bay was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the University Red Devils a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kylie King was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey Gunning, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Miya Wooden, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

The victory got Half Moon Bay back to even at 6-6. As for University, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, Half Moon Bay will challenge Menlo-Atherton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for University, they will face off against Lick-Wilmerding at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
