The Kentlake Falcons are taking a road trip to square off against the Decatur Golden Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Kentlake took on Federal Way on Wednesday. The Falcons blew past the Eagles 16-6. While the Falcons didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kentlake got a massive performance out of Josie Pedeferri, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Pedeferri continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Jasmine Demecilio also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Kentlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Decatur got themselves on the board against Beamer on Wednesday, but Beamer never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over the Titans. The win continues a trend for the Golden Gators in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won five in a row.
Kahea Sharpe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Sharpe was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, Audrey Deviney was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Sam Hackney was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Decatur pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kentlake, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 6-3.
Kentlake might still be hurting after the 13-4 loss they got from Decatur in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
