Recap: Summit Academy Bears vs. San Juan Broncos
The Summit Academy Bears scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They really took it to San Juan for the full four quarters, racking up a 74-42 win at home. Considering Summit Academy has won three matches by more than 30 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Avery Backus, who dropped a triple-double on 20 points, ten assists, and 13 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Summit Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Regan Georgeson, who shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Summit Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for San Juan, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Summit Academy and American Heritage will round out the year against one another at 11:00 a.m. on December 28th at. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (American Heritage is ranked 63rd, while Summit Academy is ranked 85th). San Juan will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Sevier at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
