Baseball Recap: Suncoast Gets the Win

Suncoast took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Benjamin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Suncoast Chargers skirted past the Benjamin Buccaneers 2-1. This was payback for the Chargers, who suffered an 8-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Hayden Neihoff tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, Suncoast's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brady Benevides, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Suncoast has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.67 hits in those games compared to only 4.63 in the others. The defeat snapped Benjamin's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-7 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Suncoast will square off against Dr. Joaquin Garcia at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Suncoast has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Benjamin, they will face off against Melbourne Central Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Melbourne Central Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Benjamin's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
