Baseball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it five. They lost 10-0 to the Napoleon Wildcats. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Devils have lost by exactly ten runs.

As for Napoleon, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2-1 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Napoleon's part, Owen Espinoza made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Espinoza has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Trey Rubinstein was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Eric Hershberger, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will challenge Start at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight. As for Napoleon, they will square off against Fostoria at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
