Baseball Recap: Carlmont Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Carlmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hillsdale Knights 3-2. Three seems to be a good number for the Scots as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Nathan Werbinski was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Carlmont is undefeated when Werbinski allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-11 otherwise. Werbinski was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Carlmont gave Ryan Kelly the start and clearly made the right call: he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Werbinski wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Attard, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The victory (which was Carlmont's third in a row) raised their record to 11-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hillsdale, they dropped their record down to 9-12 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.
