Recap: Elba vs. St. Edward

St. Edward won the last time they met up with Elba, and they shouldn't regret having come to the reunion, either. St. Edward took the match and then some with a 59-13 win on Friday over Elba. St. Edward were expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.

St. Edward got off to a slow start in their previous match, but they had no such trouble against Elba and cruised to a 43-point first half. Meanwhile, Elba couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 43-0 heading into the break. The St. Edward defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 6 and all but finishing the contest.

Senior Lucien Ruby, who rushed for 196 yards and 5 touchdowns, was a major factor in St. Edward's success. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse senior Trevor Rasmussen, who racked up 18 tackles. The victory bumped St. Edward's record up to 1-3. Elba are still searching for that first win as they fell to 0-4.

St. Edward will look to defend their home turf next week against Spalding Academy at 7:00 PM. Spalding Academy also lit up the scoreboard in their last game, so this could be a high-scoring game. As for Elba, they will face off against Santee. Both teams have had a rocky road up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece.
