Football Game Preview: Toll Gate Titans vs. Pilgrim Patriots

Toll Gate hasn't had much luck against Pilgrim recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 10:00 a.m. Toll Gate will be strutting in after a win while Pilgrim will be coming in after a defeat.

Toll Gate is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Tiverton 42-7 last Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Titans needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Toll Gate's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nick Bruner led the charge by rushing for 111 yards and two scores, while also throwing for 100 yards and one TD while completing 83.3% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Bruner a new career-high in passer rating (123.6). Another rusher making a difference was Geovonie Curtis, who rushed for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Toll Gate was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Pilgrim ended up a good deal behind Middletown last Thursday and lost 24-6.

Toll Gate's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Pilgrim, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-9.
