Baseball Game Preview: New Kent Trojans vs. Poquoson Islanders

The New Kent Trojans will challenge the Poquoson Islanders at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Poquoson will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: New Kent extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Trojans never let Warhill get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. Surprisingly, this marked the Trojans' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

New Kent got a great performance from Jonah Sorrell as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Sorrell a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Michael Hetzel was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Hobson, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

New Kent hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Warhill struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Poquoson). They put the hurt on Bruton with a sharp 11-1 victory on Friday. The Islanders haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

New Kent's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Poquoson, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-3.

New Kent came out on top in a nail-biter against Poquoson when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Islanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
