If Hartfield Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Jackson Academy, they should've done a better job of containing Anna Holladay Craft. The Raiders put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 3-0 victory on Thursday with plenty of help from Craft, who had 23 digs and three assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last six games she's played.
Jackson Academy never let Hartfield Academy on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-18, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Jackson Prep came up short against Madison-Ridgeland Academy on Thursday and fell 3-1.
While Jackson Prep ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23.
Jackson Academy will have to keep a close watch on Ally Doyle and Mia Malone, a pair of players who had a big impact on Jackson Prep's prior game. Doyle had 14 digs, while Malone had ten digs and two aces.
Jackson Prep's loss dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Jackson Academy, their win bumped their record up to 28-9-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Jackson Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Jackson Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 13 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Jackson Academy's way against Jackson Prep in their previous meeting back in August, as Jackson Academy made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
