Basketball Recap: Bishop Gorman's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

After flying high against Cross Roads last Friday, Bishop Gorman came back down to earth. The Bishop Gorman Crusaders received a blow on Friday as they fell 79-64 to the Grace Community Cougars. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Crusaders came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Cougars are ranked 553rd).

Bishop Gorman lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaylon Miles, who posted 13 points and six boards. Miles is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Ryan Richbourg was another key player, putting up 15 points along with five assists and four steals.

Even though they lost, Bishop Gorman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

With the loss, Bishop Gorman broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-4. As for Grace Community, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Bishop Gorman and Cumberland Academy will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Grace Community, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Grace Community Cougars take on the Henderson Lions at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Grace Community is facing Henderson at the right time seeing as Henderson is stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
