The Omro Foxes are taking a road trip to take on the Amherst Falcons at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Omro's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Amherst's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Omro made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Campbellsport, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Foxes fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. The Foxes have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Omro saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Grams, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Amherst). They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over Manawa on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won nine in a row.
Jacob Ruggles was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
Amherst always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Amherst's record is now 13-6. As for Omro, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Omro has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Amherst struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Omro came out on top in a nail-biter against Amherst when the teams last played back in May of 2019, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Foxes repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
