Recap: Mater Dei Knights vs. Nashville Hornets
The Mater Dei Knights have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 40-39 to Nashville. Mater Dei has struggled against Nashville recently, as their game on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maris Zurliene, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Zurliene pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Koerkenmeier, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Mater Dei's loss dropped their record down to 18-5. As for Nashville, their victory bumped their record up to 21-3.
Mater Dei will be playing at home against Centralia at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Nashville will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Frankfort at 7:45 p.m. on January 23rd. Frankfort will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 571st, while Nashville is ranked 34th).
