Softball Game Preview: Huntington Highlanders vs. Cabell Midland Knights

Huntington is 0-10 against Cabell Midland since May of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Highlanders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 5:30 p.m.

Huntington is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Friday. They came up short against South Charleston, falling 10-3.

Emma Kelly made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. Jayla King also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Cabell Midland faced Spring Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Knights had just enough and edged out the Timberwolves 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Timberwolves: they've now won seven in a row.

Cabell Midland let Becca Conrad and Nicole Harris run wild. Conrad scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Harris scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Conrad a new career-high. Ellie McCormill was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Cabell Midland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Valley only posted a batting average of .267.

Cabell Midland pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Huntington, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
