Basketball Game Preview: Heritage Pride vs. Woodgrove Wolverines

Heritage and Woodgrove are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2016, but not for long. The Heritage Pride will square off against the Woodgrove Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Heritage comes in on 14 and Woodgrove on five.

Heritage is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Loudoun County 67-37. The Pride have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Heritage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julia Ehrmantrout, who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Ehrmantrout a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Puzinski, who went 6-for-10 on her way to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Woodgrove and Loudoun Valley, and Woodgrove kept the tradition alive. Woodgrove put the hurt on Loudoun Valley with a sharp 60-35 victory on Tuesday. The Wolverines are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the eighth game they've won by 20+ points this season.

Woodgrove's win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.8 points. As for Heritage, their record now sits at 21-3.

Heritage came up short against Woodgrove when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 41-37. Can Heritage avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
