Softball Recap: Cherry Valley-Springfield Gets the Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cherry Valley-Springfield walked away with it. They skirted past the Afton Knights 7-6.

Bailey Thayer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Mackenzie McGovern and Sara Cortese did most of the damage at the plate: McGovern got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Cortese went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Cortese has posted since back in March.

Cherry Valley-Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Afton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-4.

As of now, neither Cherry Valley-Springfield nor the Knights have any future games scheduled.
