Baseball Recap: Lennard Triumphs

Lennard won the last time they faced Riverview and things went their way on Thursday too. The Longhorns came out on top against the Sharks by a score of 9-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.

Christian Skaggs was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February.

In other pitching news, JV Brennick tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lennard is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-8 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Jacob Gonzalez was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Ivan Carballo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.

Lennard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lennard's record is now 6-10. As for Riverview, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Lennard will host Bishop McLaughlin Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Riverview, they are taking a road trip to square off against Hillsborough at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Terriers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.83 runs per game on average), something the Sharks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
