Richmond took a 27-point defeat the last time they faced off against Marion, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Devils slipped by the Giants 35-34 on Friday. The Red Devils' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Richmond's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jai Allen led the charge by rushing for 127 yards while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also picking up 44 receiving yards and one TD. Those 44 receiving yards gave Allen a new career-high. Another passer making a difference was Thomas Stargell, who threw for 120 yards and three touchdowns.

When it comes to explaining why Marion lost, don't look at Jayden Johnson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 208 yards and three scores while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Johnson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 81-yard run.

Richmond's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-5. As for Marion, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Richmond will square off against Anderson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Devils will be up against the Indians' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.86 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Marion, they will challenge Lafayette Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bronchos will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Giants surely won't give up without a fight.
