Rancho Cucamonga came up short against Upland on Friday, falling 14-4. The Cougars have struggled against the Highlanders/Scots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Amanda Wise was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Jordin Washington, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Los Osos made sure to put some runs up on the board against Western on Tuesday. The Grizzlies put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 14-0 victory. Considering the Grizzlies' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Kira Cooper and Abigail Merchant made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Cooper tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Merchant pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Cooper went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Merchant went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Jazzlynn Rodriguez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Aubrey Chung was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Los Osos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Los Osos' win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-9-1. As for Rancho Cucamonga, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Rancho Cucamonga beat Los Osos 9-4 in their previous meeting on April 11th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
