Softball Recap: Pine Grove Has No Trouble Against Hickory Flat

Pine Grove never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Hickory Flat on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Hickory Flat Rebels as they made off with a 19-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won nine in a row.

Memory Mauney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caroline Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lyndi Holloway, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Pine Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .839. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hickory Flat only posted an OBP of .250.

The win got Pine Grove back to even at 1-1. As for Hickory Flat, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Pine Grove will take on Kossuth at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hickory Flat, they will square off against Walnut at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
