Preview: Amory Panthers vs. Shannon Red Raiders
The Amory Panthers will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Shannon Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Hopefully Amory is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Shannon in Mississippi (Amory is ranked 35th, while Shannon is ranked 101st).
After soaring to 41 points the game before, Amory were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ripley.
Emmanuel Randle put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 133 yards on only 12 carries. Randle hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games.
Meanwhile, Shannon can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Itawamba Agricultural as Shannon made off with a 51-27 win. The victory was nothing new for Shannon as they're now sitting on three straight.
Shannon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trey Spurgon, who threw for 366 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Dagarrious Clifton, who picked up 157 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Ripley's win bumped their season record to 9-0 while Amory's loss dropped theirs to 7-1.
Amory took a serious blow against Shannon when the teams last played back in October of 2018, falling 55-14. Can Amory avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
