Baseball Game Preview: Sumrall Bobcats vs. Pass Christian Pirates

The Sumrall Bobcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Pass Christian Pirates at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sumrall has three straight wins, Pass Christian has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Sumrall is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Florence, who was ranked 16th at the time (Sumrall was ranked 13th). The Bobcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Eagles on Thursday.

Sumrall saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leo Odom, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Pass Christian came up short against Sumrall on Tuesday, falling 11-1.

Sumrall's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Pass Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-17.

Everything went Sumrall's way against Pass Christian when the teams last played on Tuesday, as Sumrall made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
