Preview: Pinnacle Panthers vs. Monument Valley Cougars
The Pinnacle Panthers will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Monument Valley Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Pinnacle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Pinnacle had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 51-47 victory over Whitehorse.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Cole Barton and Lyric Phillips. Barton had a solid game and scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Meanwhile, Phillips was balling out in the loss, scoring 25 points.
After soaring to a 22-point victory in their last game, Monument Valley came back down to earth on Friday. They fell just short of Whitehorse by a score of 60-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Loss or not, Monument Valley got some senior leadership from Joshua Hicks and Braxton Goodshield. Hicks scored 22 points, while Goodshield. scored 18 points. Melias Cly was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Pinnacle's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-8. As for Monument Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.
Pinnacle came up short against the Cougars when the teams last played back in January, falling 72-67. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cly, who scored 27 points. Now that Pinnacle knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
