The Brookfield Academy Blue Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Catholic Central Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brookfield Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Brookfield Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lake Country Lutheran, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Blue Knights' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lightning an 11-0 shutout on Thursday. 11 seems to be a good number for the Blue Knights as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Makenna Best was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Riley Bodor was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Leora Schmidt also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Brookfield Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Country Lutheran only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, Catholic Central was able to grind out a solid win over St. Francis on Thursday, taking the game 13-8. The Hilltoppers haven't had any issues with the Mariners recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Isabella Arrieta was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Avery Bauer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Brookfield Academy pushed their record up to 2-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Catholic Central, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Catholic Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Brookfield Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Catholic Central, though, as they've been averaging 14 hits. Given Brookfield Academy's sizable advantage in that area, the Hilltoppers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Brookfield Academy might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Catholic Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Blue Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
