Basketball Recap: Hammond Bishop Noll Comes Up Short

If Hammond Bishop Noll was feeling good fresh off their 62-9 takedown of Calumet New Tech on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Warriors had to suffer through a 66-32 loss at the hands of the Marquette Catholic Blazers. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-19.

Hammond Bishop Noll lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ecrin Mart, who posted six points. Mart is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Giniya Williams, who put up eight points and nine rebounds.

Leading Marquette Catholic to victory were Laniah Davis and Marissa Pleasant. Davis went 9-for-13 en route to 23 points and eight boards, while Pleasant shot 55% from the field on her way to 17 points and six assists. Those six assists gave Pleasant a new career-high. Za'Nia Mann also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Hammond Bishop Noll's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Marquette Catholic, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

Coming up, Hammond Bishop Noll will face off against Gary West Side at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Marquette Catholic, they will challenge South Bend Saint Joseph at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
