Baseball Recap: Bath Takes a Loss

Bath dropped their record down to 11-9 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Defiance Bulldogs, falling 18-6. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Defiance, their win was their 12th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by eight runs or more this season.

For Defiance's part, Sam Gershutz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gershutz has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Logan Hutcheson and Noah Gomez did most of the damage at the plate: Hutcheson went 3-for-5 with five runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Gomez went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five runs gave Hutcheson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abel Rubio, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one double.

Looking ahead, Bath will head out to square off against Galion at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Defiance does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
