Baseball Recap: Pinnacle Sets Scoring Season-High Against Desert Mountain

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pinnacle). They put the hurt on the Desert Mountain Wolves with a sharp 14-7 victory on Tuesday. The Pioneers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wolves, too.

Dean Duran looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has become a key player for Pinnacle: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 2-3-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Pinnacle got a massive performance out of Sam Green, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Green is becoming a predictor of Pinnacle's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 1-4-1 when he doesn't). Colin Follmer was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Pinnacle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Pinnacle and bumps their season record up to 4-4-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 6-2 Williams Field (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 67.5% over those games). As for Desert Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Looking ahead, Pinnacle will square off against Corona del Sol at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Desert Mountain, they will take on Williams Field in a tournament on Wednesday.
