Baseball Recap: Port Allegany's Undefeated Season over After Eight Games

After flying high against Oswayo Valley on Thursday, Port Allegany came back down to earth. The Gators fell just short of the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. The game marked the Gators' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Nicholas Wilfong put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Wilfong wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Bliss, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. Another was Tyler Fillhart, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Port Allegany fell to 7-1. As for Elk County Catholic, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Port Allegany will challenge Oswayo Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Gators are facing the Green Wave at the right time seeing as the Green Wave are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Elk County Catholic, they will head out to face off against Brookville at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
