Game recap: Mercyhurst Prep High School Football Team defeats Northwestern

ERIE, Pa. - Mercyhurst Prep (Erie, Pa.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 14-7 victory over Northwestern (Albion, Pa.) on Saturday. The Lakers captured the lead for good when Cornelius Barclay ran for a touchdown.

The Wildcats pulled ahead on a Grant Panko touchdown pass to Josiah Friend, and subsequently went into halftime leading 7-0. The Lakers took the lead for good with a touchdown run by Barclay in the fourth quarter.

Despite scoring zero points in the third, Mercyhurst Prep still trailed by 7 points going into the fourth quarter. But 14 points in the fourth helped MP pull out the victory.

Northwestern's Friend played well. The junior running back caught one touchdown.

The Erie school's most effective player was Barclay. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 28 touchdowns on the season.



NHS's lone touchdown came on a 4-yard pass from Panko to Friend in the second quarter.

The Lakers entered the contest giving up 22.2 points per game this year.

The loss comes after Northwestern defeated Fairview 49-14 last week.
