Basketball Recap: Ponderosa Comes Up Short

Ponderosa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were dealt an 81-24 defeat at the hands of the Highlands Ranch Falcons. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-9.

Despite the loss, Ponderosa saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jenni Sorvillo went 6 of 7 on her way to 13 points. Sorvillo also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 86%.

Highlands Ranch got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kimora Banks-Thomas out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine assists. Banks-Thomas has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Ezra Simonich was another key player, going 7 for 8 en route to 16 points along with five assists and five steals.

Ponderosa's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Highlands Ranch, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-2.

Ponderosa wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 48-20 loss against ThunderRidge on the 4th. As for Highlands Ranch, they have also already played their next game, an 85-18 win against Heritage on the 4th.
