Maple Mountain barely beat Pleasant Grove the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the Vikings 18-2 on Thursday. Considering the Eagles have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Maple Mountain got a massive performance out of Izzie Groneman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Groneman has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Daphnee Pagano, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Maple Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pleasant Grove only posted an OBP of .357.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork faced Salem Hills in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Dons lost 13-6 to the Skyhawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Dons have suffered since March 17th.
Lia Higginson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Worthen, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Spanish Fork's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7. As for Maple Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Maple Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
