Basketball Recap: Denver South Skates Past Dakota Ridge with Ease

It was a Battle of the Birds when Denver South challenged Dakota Ridge on Friday. The Denver South Ravens blew past the Dakota Ridge Eagles 57-24. Given the Ravens' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Eagles are ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Denver South can attribute much of their success to Ka'Niya Anderson, who made all 5 shots she took for 11 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Alex Gehring, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points.

When it comes to explaining why Dakota Ridge lost, don't look at Darian Lewis. Despite the final result, she posted ten points. Lewis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Mikaila Jackson was another key player, putting up five points and five rebounds.

Denver South's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31 points. As for Dakota Ridge, they moved to 4-4 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Denver South will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Vista PEAK Prep at 7:30 p.m. on January 14th. Vista PEAK Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season. As for Dakota Ridge, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-24 defeat against Chatfield on the 10th.
