Twelve hospitalized, but no major injuries in scary interuption of Union County's home victory.

It ended up being just a scare – thankfully – but the Union County versus J.L. Mann playoff football game received a major jolt Friday night in Union, S.C.

And it wasn’t an earthquake.

A cement wall collapsed at Union County Stadium and 12 students were taken to a local hospital. All, according to Union County Principal Joe Walker, were treated for minor injuries, none life-threatening.

“Most of the students just had bruised knees and bruised backs,” Walker told the Greenville News.

Sixteen other students were treated by medical teams at the stadium and released.

The game was delayed only 11 minutes and when play resumed, Union County prevailed 34-7.

Union County Athletic Director Mike Massey couldn’t determine the reason for the collapse and an investigation had started Saturday morning.

Television footage showed student jumping up and down near and against the wall while cheering for the home team.
