Basketball Recap: Presley Schmidt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Goddard over Salina Central

Goddard scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 63-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Salina Central Mustangs. The Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in February.

Goddard lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Presley Schmidt, who posted 20 points and six boards. That was a full 39.2% of Goddard's points, marking the third time in a row Schmidt has put up more than a third of the team's points. Audrianna Phillips-Blevins was another key player, putting up 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Goddard and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Salina Central, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Goddard is set to take on their familiar foe Andover at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Salina Central will face off against rival Newton on Friday.
