Basketball Recap: Woodlan Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

If Jay County wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Woodlan, they should've done a better job of containing Trey Yoder. The Woodlan Warriors put the hurt on the Jay County Patriots with a sharp 60-39 victory on Friday thanks in part to Yoder, who shot 7-for-9 from long range and dropped a double-double on 33 points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times he's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Halsey, who posted three points. What's more, he also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024.

Jay County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christopher Jayden Comer, who earned 11 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Gradin Swoveland, who scored eight points along with five assists and three steals.

Woodlan has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. As for Jay County, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-5.

Woodlan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-34 win against Heritage on the 18th. As for Jay County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-49 victory against Hagerstown on the 21st.
