Basketball Recap: May River Falls Despite Big Games from Nia Taylor and Elizabeth Duncan

May River was the 37-31 winner over John Paul II when they last played one another back in December of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The May River Sharks fell 48-41 to the John Paul II Golden Warrriors on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Sharks 's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

May River's loss came despite strong showings from Elizabeth Duncan and Nia Taylor. Duncan posted 14 points and seven rebounds, while Taylor earned 15 points and eight rebounds.

Among those leading the charge was Emma McKamey, who had four points along with seven boards and three steals. What's more, she also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2023. Lily Termini was another key player, putting up nine points.

Having lost for the first time this season, May River fell to 5-1. As for John Paul II, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

May River will head out to take on Hilton Head Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hilton Head Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for John Paul II, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-25 win against Bridges Prep on the 13th.
