Preview: Meadville Eagles vs. La Plata Bulldogs
Meadville is 8-2 against La Plata since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Meadville Eagles will be staying on the road to face off against the La Plata Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. Hopefully Meadville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Thursday.
Meadville pushed their score all the way to 57, but even that wasn't enough to win. The game between them and Hale wasn't particularly close, with Meadville falling 73-57. Meadville was down 53-32 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Meadville had strong showings from Gauge Shiflett, who scored 15 points along with two steals, and Donivan Schreckhise, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Quentyn Smith, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, La Plata's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 66-48 to Atlanta. While losing is never fun, La Plata can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 486th, while Atlanta is ranked 181st).
Meadville now has a losing record at 9-10. As for La Plata, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-11.
Meadville beat La Plata 50-39 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Meadville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
