Football Recap: Hawthorne Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Hawthorne had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 12-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wallington Panthers. If the Bears were looking for revenge after losing 27-7 to the Panthers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Natalia Poweska was nothing short of spectacular for Wallington: she rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 41 yards and one TD. Poweska didn't just play on offense: she also made four total tackles and defended one pass.

The victory made it two in a row for Wallington and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Hawthorne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wallington, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Harrison at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
