Volleyball Recap: Alexander Central Cougars vs. Watauga Pioneers
If Alexander Central was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of South Caldwell on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars lost 3-0 to the Watauga Pioneers on Wednesday. The Cougars have struggled against the Pioneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Alexander Central was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-22, 25-19.
Reagan Pierce paced Alexander Central's offense, picking up 17 kills. Pierce got some help from Makayla Williams and her 16 assists. Finally, Kay'Ona Connor kept Alexander Central's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.
Watauga found their leader in sophomore Caroline Childers, who had 19 digs and two aces. Childers has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more digs the last 30 times she's played.
Alexander Central's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Watauga, the victory (which was their 23rd in a row) raised their record to 23-1.
