Polk County is 0-3 against Roane County since May of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Polk County Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Roane County Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Polk County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Red Bank, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Polk County's pitcher stepped up to hand Red Bank a 9-0 shutout on Friday. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Mallie Evans was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kendall Coons was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Brooke Pike was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Polk County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Roane County put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over Midway. The Yellowjackets have beaten the Green Wave the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Green Wave has come to flipping the script.
Sailor Presley made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Roane County got a big performance out of Ava Hamilton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Reese Newman, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Roane County's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Polk County, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-4 record.
Polk County suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Roane County when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Polk County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
