Baseball Recap: Vandalia Takes a Loss

Vandalia had lost eight straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-14 to make it nine. They lost 15-5 to the Staunton Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Vandals have suffered against the Bulldogs since May 9, 2016.

Andrew Casey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kohnor Depew, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.

As for Staunton, they now have a winning record of 12-11-1. Considering they have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Staunton's side, the team relied heavily on Zander Machota, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Machota a new career-high. Ethan Sharp was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Vandalia will head out to square off against Dieterich at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Staunton, they will be playing at home against Civic Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
