Basketball Recap: Kyle Kovich's Big Game Can't Quite Lead King's Christian Academy over Southern Maryland Christian Academy

King's Christian Academy was the 76-74 winner over Southern Maryland Christian Academy when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The King's Christian Academy Eagles took a 76-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (58), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

King's Christian Academy lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kyle Kovich, who went 6 of 10 en route to 17 points and six assists. The dominant performance gave Kovich a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Earl B. Edmonds, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 16 points.

Even though they lost, King's Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Maryland Christian Academy only pulled down two offensive rebounds.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corey Hughley, who went 11 of 18 en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Ja?Zyere Thompson, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 17 points and three blocks.

King's Christian Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.

King's Christian Academy will head out to challenge Calverton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, they will take on Friendship Collegiate Academy in a tournament on Friday.
