Softball Recap: Corydon Central Starts Season with Win on the Road

Corydon Central had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They skirted past the Meade County Green Waves 5-3. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 7-4 win the Green Waves walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Ava Gerdon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rease Jones, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Meade County fell to 4-1.

Corydon Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Jennings County on the 26th. As for Meade County, they will challenge Mercy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meade County's pitchers better be ready for this one: Mercy has averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
