Jacksboro is 8-1 against City View since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Jacksboro is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Burkburnett: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Tigers blew the Bulldogs out of the water with a 62-13 final score. With the Tigers ahead 42-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Jacksboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wyatt Gavit led the charge by throwing for 357 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.2% of his passes. Isaac Wesson was in the mix too, providing the Tigers with two scores.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Jacksboro proved: they limited Burkburnett to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. While three picked up at least two total tackles, Wesson stood above the rest. He picked up 116 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Jacksboro's ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.
Jacksboro's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. In that department, Lucas Cornish was the leader with two.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask City View). Everything went their way against Childress last Friday as they made off with a 52-27 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three games by 20 points or more so far this season.
City View's win came from a few key players Jacksboro will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Malachi Williams, who threw for 186 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 31 yards. Hunner Brown did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 28 receiving yards.
The win made it two in a row for City View and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points over those games. As for Jacksboro, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Jacksboro couldn't quite get it done against City View when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 28-21. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Williams, who rushed for 70 yards and three scores, and also threw for 124 yards and one TD. Now that the Tigers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
